Scott was one of ten children born to John & Ruby (Riehm) Cary. He was born April 11, 1923 in Kendallville, IN. On January 19, 1946, he married Mary Hurley in Sturgis and together they raised six children on a farm in East Gilead. This past January they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Mr. Cary was a very gifted baseball player who played in the Minor Leagues for many years until his skill and love of baseball gave him the opportunity to play for the Washington Senators. After his baseball career, he returned home to Michigan where he farmed and began the Cary Farms Trucking business. During that time he also drove truck for Essex Wire for many years.
Scott was a member of St. Mary’s Church and the Major League Baseball Alumni Assoc and he had formerly served on the Bronson School Board of Education. He was inducted into the Ft. Wayne Baseball Hall of Fame in the 1977. He was a dedicated baseball coach for Bronson Little League and the Babe Ruth Baseball programs and one of the coaches for the infamous Honey Lake Baseball Team of Bronson. Scott was honored to be asked to participate in the Major League Baseball Golfing Benefits which he did for two years. He enjoyed playing golf and bowling but nothing could ever compare to his love of baseball. Spring and summer were Scott’s favorite time of year because it was then that he could be watching his children and grandchildren play the game that brought so much joy to his life. He was extremely proud of the family that he and Mary raised together.
