Obituary for Donald H. Oliver

Donald H. Oliver, 74, of Colon passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at the Laurels of Coldwater. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, February 8, 2013 from 10:00 AM – 12 Noon at Dutcher – Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 PM at Matteson Cemetery with Pastor Terry Siler from the First Congregational Church of Bronson officiating.
Donald was born November 5, 1938 in Matteson Twp. to Claude and Sylvia (Rowe) Oliver. He graduated from Colon High School in 1956. Donald was married to Beverly (Arney) Oliver for 21 years and then married Linda Franks, together they shared 14 years.
Don spent many years in the upholstery business, owning and operating Oliver’s Upholstery in Colon, from which he retired in 2002. He was an extreme perfectionist when it came to his craft and his carpentry work.
Mr. Oliver was an outdoorsman who enjoyed snowmobiling and playing softball. He loved playing Yahtzee and Euchre, as well as other card games. Donald enjoyed antiquing and auctions in search of unique finds and collectibles. He had a great love for his family and grandchildren and enjoyed the time they spent together.
Donald is survived by his sons Tim (Sheri) Oliver of Tekonsha, Donald H. Oliver II of Bronson, Thomas (Beth) Oliver of Arizona, his daughter Brenda (Dave) Lanning of Coldwater, his dear friend Pat Smith , 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Terry Oliver, his brother, Bob Oliver, his sister Ilene Farrand and step daughter Susan Stimer,.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Congregational Church of Bronson or the Humane Society of Branch County.
