Obituary for Carl Edwin Schell

Carl Edwin Schell
Rev. Carl Edwin Schell, 59 of Hillsdale passed away on Tuesday, July 08, 2014 at the Community Health Center of Branch County while surrounded by family.
In following Carl’s wishes, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 12:00 Noon at the former Coldwater Wesleyan Church, 25 North Michigan Avenue, with several area ministers officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial service starting at 11:00 AM. Arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.
Carl was born May 23, 1955 in New Castle, PA to Donald and Nancy (McFall) Schell. Upon graduation from Oral Roberts University, he began his life-long commitment to serving God. Carl was very ambitious in his ministry. He started a youth center in New Castle and then spent 10 years in South America, doing missionary work in Peru and Costa Rica. Upon returning to the states, he then founded ABBA, the Amazon Basin Benevolent Association, Inc. which still operates. Carl moved to Coldwater where he served for several years as the Pastor of the Coldwater Wesleyan Church. He volunteered with Forgotten Man ministries, the Eby Youth Center’s Friday Night Alive, and headed the Homeless Committee for the Coldwater Area Ministerial Association. Later, he worked for the Salvation Army both in Branch and Hillsdale Counties and was a member of the Coldwater Kiwanis Club.
Carl was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt turkey and deer. He enjoyed the time hunting and fishing with the children that he knew through the church. Carl liked to play scrabble, and had a passion for playing music and singing. Carl touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
Mr. Schell is survived by his father, Donald Schell of New Castle, PA, his mother, Nancy St. Esprit of Lowell, MI; his brothers, Ronald Schell of Lowell and John (Charlette) Schell of Henderson, NC; his sister Marcia (Jim) Banfill of Lowell; his nephews John & Jason Schell of NC, Matthew Bishop of TX, and Gage Schell of Lowell and aunts Betty Kay Maher of New Castle, Pa and Donna Messner of Ada, Mi.
