Roy A.  Doctor
Roy Doctor, 84, of Coldwater passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2015 surrounded by his family at home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 8, 2015 at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Coldwater with Mr. Doctor’s son Rev. Daniel Doctor celebrant and concelebrant Rev. Fr. Mark Vyverman. Interment with full military honors will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 PM Wednesday.
Roy was born March 7, 1931 to Andrew Hubert and Antoinette (Filegrance) Doctor in Schererville, Indiana. He graduated from Dyer High School in Dyer, Indiana. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served from Jan. 5, 1951 until Oct. 26, 1954 on the USS Twining DD 540,having attained the rank of GMSN. He received the Korean Conflict Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, China Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the United States Service Medal. He married Violet Jeanette McClellan on June 27, 1953 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Schererville, Indiana.
Roy went on to work at Ford Motor Company as an electrician for 30 years retiring in 1994 from the S. Chicago plant.
He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Coldwater, the Knights of Columbus in Coldwater, the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Assembly 500 in Bronson , Charter member of the Highland, Indiana V.F.W., Lifetime member of the Tin Can Sailor’s. Roy enjoyed reading, listening to big band music, bowling and watching football. He was known as “The Rosary Doctor” as he fixed rosaries for many, as well as making over 17,000 thousand rosaries and sending them all over the world.
Roy is survived by his wife Violet Jeanette; his children Dennis (Adele) Doctor of Valparaiso, IN, David (Xu Hong) Doctor of Las Cruces, N.M. , Shirley (C. Mark) Rippy of N. Judson, IN., Sharon Doctor of Colorado Springs, CO., Rev. Daniel Doctor of Portage, MI., Dale Doctor of Noblesville, IN.; 9 Grandchildren; 11 Great Grandchildren; his brothers Elmer (Dorothy) Doctor of Schererville, IN., Gerald (Therse) Doctor of Munster, IN. and Donald (Merry) Doctor of Griffith, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents.
