Duane was born July 3, 1958 to Elmer and Beverly (Goodwin) Ferry in Coldwater. Prior to BCS, he spent 23 years with Eckrich & ConAgra Foods. On September 20, 1980, he married the love of his life Myra Clemens in Coldwater.

Duane was a man of faith and a long-time member of Snow Prairie Bible Church, where he also served as both a Deacon and an Elder. In his younger days, he was a very accomplished baseball player. After his playing days were over, his love for the game continued while he coached and taught his children and others the game. His true passion in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Duane enjoyed fishing, camping, and family activities.
