Obituary for Elsie L. Smith

Elsie L. Smith, 91, of Coldwater, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at her home.

The funeral will be Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 11:00 AM atThe Church of Christ at Bronson with Evangelist Mike Roberts officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, March 3, 2017 from 5-8:00 PM at The Church of Christ. Arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.

Elsie was born August 17, 1925 in LaGrange, IN to Jeremiah & Florence (Smith) Bupp. She married Eber R. Smith June 1, 1949 in LaGrange. He preceded her in death on July 7, 1991.

Mrs. Smith worked at Transogram Toy Factory in Sturgis for many years, until the plant closed in 1967. Elsie was a member of the Church of Christ in Bronson. She enjoyed quilting, embroidery and working word puzzles. She had a great love of children and was known by many as the “candy lady.” Elsie was very caring, yet shy, and always put her family first.

Elsie is survived by her children Karen (Arlin) Gates of Coldwater, Ronnie Smith of Sturgis, Larry (Terri) Smith of Malabar, FL, step-son Delmer Smith of North Dakota, many grand, great-grand and great, great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and her beloved dog “Max”. Elsie was very proud to have five generations of women in her family. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter Dixie Back, step-son Marlin Smith, son-in-law Frank Back, 3 brothers and 5 sisters.
