Obituary for Margaret A. Murphy

Margaret Ann "Maggie" Murphy (McLaughlin), 87, of Coldwater, passed away Monday, June 5, 2017 at Grand Vista in Coldwater. A funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13th, 2017 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Coldwater. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 12, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater. Margaret was born January 29, 1930, the daughter of Eva Pauline (Cade) McLaughlin and James Edward McLaughlin in Terra Haute, Indiana. She graduated from Coldwater High School in 1948, and married Frank M. Murphy on June 18, 1950. Maggie's father Ed opened McLaughlin's Bakery, and was joined by her brother Jim to continue running this Coldwater staple for many years.
Maggie and husband Frank M. Murphy (USN) spent 30 plus years traveling as part of Frank's Naval career, living abroad as well as in the U.S. In 1982, the couple settled back in Coldwater. Maggie was an avid reader, Bridge player and enjoyed her trips to the casino. She adored spending time with her five children and numerous grandchildren. As one of Maggie's nieces poignantly referred to her as "spunk mentor," she will be forever missed for her sense of humor, sass, and ability to captivate a crowd with her stories and advice. Maggie will be remembered as a true Irish soul, who embodied loyalty, wit, and class.
Mrs. Murphy is survived by her daughter Theresa (Mike) Murphy of Coldwater; her sons Timothy (Patricia) Murphy of Pasadena, MD, Edward (Amy) Murphy of St. Peters, MO, and Kelly (Kimberly) of Kendallville, IN; her grandchildren Tyler (Kim), Angela (Charles), Charles (Anna), Marshall, Katherine, Rebekah, Christopher, Samantha, Brian, Deanna, Lisa, Riley, Patrick, Kyle, Aubrey, Cooper, Sawyer, and Noah; several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Frank; her son Frank Michael Murphy; her grandchildren Matthew Murphy and Sarah Murphy; and brothers James McLaughlin and Tom McLaughlin. Memorial donations may be directed to Tommy's House and St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Coldwater. www.dutcherfh.com
