Obituary for Mary L. Moore

Mary L. Moore
Mary L. (Smith-Victor) Moore July 1, 1922 – June 23, 2017

She lived her entire life, of almost ninety- five years, in preparation for the day when heaven’s gates would open, and she would be welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior.

Sadly, but with joyful hearts, her family saw her released from worldly bonds into glory, and heavenly reunion, with loved one’s gone before her. Mary left this life June 23, 2017, at Masonville Place in Coldwater, where for the past one and a half years, she had resided.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John A. and Flora (Barker-Benjamen) Smith to whom she was born, July 1, 1922, in Coldwater. She is the last of their eight children: Foster Benjamen, Julie (Smith) Wortz, Vesta (Smith) Lehman, Robert Smith, Marjorie (Smith) Wortz, Anna (Smith) Shumway and Wilma (Smith) Nichols.

Mary graduated from Coldwater High School, and went on to earn a certificate in social studies from Michigan State.

She was active in 4-H, and was on the Queen’s court as a young lady. Many grandkids and neighborhood children owe their successful 4-H projects to her loving guidance.

She loved her God with passion, and her family dearly. On December 1, 1946, she married Theodore “Ted” L. Victor. He died as the result of an auto accident in 1960.

On October, 1, 1966, she married Homer O. Moore, merging two families and their four children. Once again there was love and joy in their lives. Homer and Mary had forty six wonderful years together, on the farm in Butler Township until Homer’s death in 2012. They were active in “couples club” and church activities.
Mary was employed at Southern Michigan National Bank for many years and served as the Butler Township Clerk, retiring in 2011. She was a lifelong, faithful member of the Coldwater Wesleyan Methodist Church until it closed. She served as organist, treasurer and Sunday school teacher for many years. In recent years, when able, she had attended both the Coldwater Free Methodist and Girard United Methodist Churches.
Mary leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory, four children: Patricia A. Victor Perrine and partner, Carol Higgens of Flint, Wayne and Laura Victor of Tucson, AZ, Bradley and Cindy Moore of Quincy, Michael and Debra Moore of Quincy.

She was blessed with eleven grandchildren: Holly (Jamie) Moore McKee, Jolee (Jim) Kempf, Ryan (Courtney) Moore, Shalimar (Karl Garnsay) Victor, Alicia (Brian) Kinsley, Nicky Bowling, Cassie Erickson, Matthew (Kate) Victor, Amanda (Phil) Limieaux, Marcie (Ben Burns) Moore, Dustin (Kelly) Moore. Mary also leaves eighteen great grandchildren, with number nineteen expected soon, many nieces and nephews and faithful friends, Julie and Del Draper, niece Diane (Smith) Pridgeon has been a faithful visitor and comfort.

The funeral will be Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Rev. George Cecil officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, June 26, 2017 from 3-7:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.

It was Mary’s wish that memorials be directed to Girard United Methodist Church orColdwater Free Methodist Church. www.dutcherfh.com
