The Quality Inn Convention Center, Hawthorn Place, four Super 8 Motels, and Little People Day Care Center, were later built.
Hal remained active in business and projects until the last 24 hours of his life.
Born in Geneva, Illinois in 1931 to Naomi and Floyd, he experienced financial and physical hardships and began earning money shining shoes as a very young child.
Hal joined the army at 15 and was trained as a cook. He was discharged as sergeant at 17. While working at Kalamazoo State Hospital, he met and married Lillian, an RN. While attending WMU, Hal was employed as a police officer in Kalamazoo. He later worked in the defense industry as a Contracts Administrator moving to Illinois, Utah and California, until returning to Michigan in 1965.
Hal was a proud Charter Member of the Sunrise Rotary Club and happy to be a part of projects including the Branch County Animal Shelter, Naomi Davis Shelter House (named after his mother), the Tibbits Opera House Restoration, the Creal Soccer Complex and others.
Hal is a past Bronson Chamber President, (helping to establish Polish Heritage Days), has served as Michigan Nursing Home Association President, Coldwater Chamber President and Chairman of the Branch County Community Health Center Board.
