Obituary for Doris L. Smith

On Wednesday, November 29, 2017, Doris Smith, after being carried by God through her recent surgeries and illnesses, was carried home to be with Him forever.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 12 Noon at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Aaron Chittick from St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow at Lawrence Wilson Cemetery. The family will receive friends, prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 AM at Dutcher Funeral Home.
Doris was born February 18, 1932 in Chicago, IL to Wilbur & Dorothy (Boehm) Compton. She attended Fenger High School in Chicago and married Walter F. Smith on October 9, 1950. He preceded her in death in September of 1989.
Mrs. Smith was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. She also handled food preparation at a variety of restaurants including McDonald’s and Hardee’s in Fremont, IN, Pokagon State Park, the Boathouse and Burnside Senior Center in Coldwater. Doris loved to play cards and the organ. She was a great cook who enjoyed entertaining friends and family. She was a gifted artist, painting pictures and had a great love of animals, especially her own pets. Most of all she enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren.
Doris is survived by her children Jacqueline (Alan) Kossow of Maumee, OH, Walter (Mary) Smith, Jr., Cindy Richards, Christine (Pat) Mills, Cathleen (John) Morrill, Sr. all of Coldwater, her sisters Carole (Gary) Busick of Matteson, IL, Mona Lopez of Tucson, AZ, her grandchildren John Jr., Rachel, Sarah, Taryn, Leslie, Laura, Justin and Alissa; great grandchildren Emma, Madison, Harper, Nolan, Archer, Finn, Isla, Ella and Gwen. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her grandchildren Joseph & Jennifer Smith.
