Obituary for Dr. Howard "Budd" W. Loehr

Dr. Howard "Budd" W. Loehr
Dr. Howard W. “Budd” Loehr, 85, of Coldwater, passed away Friday, January 5, 2018 at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Dave Brown officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 4-8:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home. Cremation will follow services.
Howard was born March 24, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY to Howard & Jean (Morris) Loehr. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. Budd graduated in 1950 from Cooley High School in Detroit, Wayne State University in 1962 and University of Detroit Dental School in 1966. He and his wife Ruby were looking at small towns to move to, almost choosing Gladwin but since there wasn’t a movie theater they chose Coldwater. They loved the dental practice opportunity, the beautiful old homes and felt it was a good place to raise a family. The fact that there was a river running through town, hundreds of lakes and hunting galore was a big draw for Dr. Loehr. The Loehr and Krutsch families shared many great times living across the street from each other.
Dr. Loehr was very active in the community. He belonged to many organizations including the Lions, Kiwanis, Elks, Eagles and Ducks Unlimited. He served on the school board for 3 years, the Country Club board and helped to oversee the well- being of many state home residents. Budd was an avid outdoorsman. He was proud to have taken the largest buck with a bow and arrow in Branch Co. and traveled to Newfoundland moose hunting. He has fished in Alaska and taken annual fishing trips to Canada. Budd could regularly be found in Baldwin when the salmon were running and night fishing at Cary Lake. After putting a pool in his backyard, he held swim races with his and other neighborhood kids. Dr. Loehr enjoyed water skiing, scuba diving, and snorkeling and had a great story about being chased by a shark. He began snow skiing in his 40’s and fell in love with skiing in Colorado, Utah and California. Budd enjoyed golf and flying planes but most of all he loved spending time with his family. He was always teaching his children “how to.” He coached many teams, even winning some championships. He adored his grandchildren and loved to watch them play sports and perform music. He was a gregarious man who has touched many lives through his dentistry and his humor.
Dr. Loehr is survived by his children Lisa (Kurt) Miller of Coldwater, Curtis (Kathy) Loehr, Eric (Anne) Loehr all of Brighton, Katie (Rich) Cramer of Fenton, the mother of his children Ruby (Phillips) & Jon Harpst of Coldwater, Jon & Val Harpst of Williamston, his sisters Jean Lemasters of Boca Raton, FL, Jessica Rose of Livonia, his grandchildren Carly Warren, William Loehr, Katelyn Loehr, Tyler Loehr, Mackenzie Miller, Morgan Miller, Kameron Miller, Alec Cramer, Nicole Cramer, Luke Cramer, his great granddaughter Isla, his cousin Rick (Gloria) Loehr of Southport, NC, his second family the Krutsch’s, several nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends.
Memorials may be directed to the Shelterhouse or the Branch Co. Coalition Against Domestic Violence. www.dutcherfh.com
