Obituary for Edna K. "Karen" Firestone

Edna “Karen” Firestone, 75 of Burr Oak passed away Monday, January 8, 2018 at her home.

A funeral service will take place at 1:30 pm, Sunday, January 14, 2018 at the Church of Christ of Bronson with Evangelist Mike Roberts officiating. In following Karen’s wishes, cremation will follow the service and a private burial will take place at West Girard Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.

Edna was born October 5, 1942 to Edward and Helen (Blessing) Bazarek in Berwyn, IL. She married Donald Hanna and together they raised their family. Karen later married Elgin “Glen” Firestone. Both have preceded her in death. Karen was a hardworking woman. She started her career in Battle Creek before taking an Attendant’s position at the State Home in Coldwater. After the home closed, she took some college courses to change careers. Karen worked at V.I.P. Automotive for many years as the Office Manager prior to retiring to enjoy life.

Karen had many interests. She liked computer card games, going to garage sales, and gardening. Karen enjoyed traveling for vacations, bowling tournaments, and to visit her grandchildren. She had a love of animals. Karen will be remembered as a kind, friendly, and generous woman with a good sense of humor. She will be missed by many.

Mrs. Firestone is survived by her children Anna Marie (Bryan) Walters, Lisa Lorraine Hanna, James Donald Hanna all of Coldwater, and Michelle (Matthew) Avery of Burr Oak; her siblings Betty Lorraine Fox of Coldwater and Fred (Deb) Fadely of Portage; her grandchildren Michelle Dawn (Shawn) Callahan of Maryland, Patrick (Jasman) Walters of Ohio, Matthew (Suzi) Walters, Amanda Hanna, and Michael Hanna all of Coldwater, Holly (Malcolm Elliott) Howard of Ohio, Heather and Hannah Avery of Burr Oak; her great grandchildren Liam and Claire Callahan, Esther and Blythe Abbott, Katherine and Jack Pengally, Layla, Jasper, and Emmett Walters, Lexus Peterson, Atreyu and Damien Tesch, Izik Barcia, Travis Green, and Alayna Elliott; many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, both her husbands’ Donald and Glen; her brother Donald Barton, Jr.; her grandsons Steven Thrasher and Ron Tesch; her daughter-in-law Donna Hanna; and her long-time friend Beverly Smith.
