Obituary for Richard P. Robillard

Richard P. Robillard, 93, of Coldwater, passed away Monday, August 14, 2017 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Oak Grove Cemetery Chapel with Rev. Deborah Semon-Scott from the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Visitation will be held, prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 PM at the chapel. Arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Richard was the first baby born at Sheldon Memorial Hospital in Albion, MI on July 21, 1924 to Clyde Richard & Etta S. (Wright) Robillard. He married Betty J. Mertz on December 2, 1944 in Detroit, MI. She preceded him in death on October 1, 2001.
Richard worked from an early age in many different occupations. He sold newspapers, ushered at the Tower Theater in Detroit, drove truck for Ford Motor Co. and helped build B24 bombers during WWII. Dick farmed, was a lineman for Camden Telephone Co and was a supervisor at the Coldwater anodizing plant for American International Aluminum. His primary career was in law enforcement, serving as a dispatcher and patrolman for the Coldwater Police Dept. for 21 years. He had also worked with Heinemann Security Agency and as a bank courier. Dick had volunteered for the Commission on Aging serving Meals on Wheels and at the Community Health Center of Branch County. He worked until four years before his death.
Mr. Robillard was a member of the Coldwater First Presbyterian Church, the NRA and Branch County Sportsman’s Club.
Richard is survived by his daughter Nancy J. Sprow; granddaughter Amanda J. (Frank) Dean; great grandchildren Gage Richard Commissaris and Chloe Dean; and sister-in-law Margaret Long. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law David L. Sprow in 1993; grandson Richard L. Sprow in 1998; and sisters Mary Jeanne Jeska and Charlotte Nicolai.
